Couples of the Year — 2018 and 2017

2018 Missouri District Couple of the Year

Gary and Noraleen Hord’s Story

Hello, we are Noraleen and Gary Hord.  And we are the 2018 Missouri District Couple of the Year.  We want to thank Chapter G for nominating us as their 2017 Chapter Couple of the Year and starting us on this wonderful journey.

Noraleen is retired from the State of Missouri after 26 years and currently working part time for C&S Business Solutions.  Gary is a salesman for American Building Products and has worked in the same business for over 40 years.

Gary started riding bikes in the late 70’s and got his first Goldwing in 1981.  Gary started riding with the group out of Jefferson City and they eventually talked Gary into joining GWRRA.

After almost 32 years of marriage, we have 5 kids with 4 spouses, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

In 2014, we decided that the kids are gone and on their own, so it was time we start having a life of our own.  In 2015, Gary found a good deal on a 1996 Goldwing bike.  We were invited to ride with Chapter G and P and we rejoined GWRRA.  We love riding with both Chapters because they very rarely ride at the same time and we get to ride more often by riding with both.

We enjoy spending time together and riding every chance we get.  We have made lots of friends and they have become our GWRRA family.

Gary found a black 2006 Goldwing trike and has enjoyed dressing out the trike with even more lights and chrome.  It is a lot easier for Noraleen to get on and off the trike and we feel it is a lot safer.  We really feel that not only watching out for the other person is important, but it is also very important to be seen in order to be safe.

We enjoy participating in as many things as we can and doing whatever needs to be done at the time and we enjoy helping our GWRRA friends as we can on an individual bases.  We are trying to attend as many GWRRA seminars as time will allow at each rally.  We feel that the more knowledge we can gain the safer we will be when we are riding.  We appreciate all the help and guidance we have received along the way.  We again want to thank Chapter G for nominating us as their Couple of the Year in 2017 and starting us on this wonderful adventure.  It is truly an honor.  Thank you!

Have fun with friends, ride safely with knowledge!

Chuck & Trish Smith’s Story

THANK YOU!  These two little words will never be able to express how thankful we are that we belong to one of the greatest organizations in the nation and can be part of the GWRRA family.   The knowledge that we have gained since becoming members in 2011, has helped to become safer riders.  The friends we have made along the way has allowed us to have more fun.

Chuck is employed in maintenance with Gates Rubber Company in Versailles for 20 years.  He has been on two wheels since he was a kid.   Over the span of his riding age, Chuck has owned 15 street bikes and numerous dirt bikes and four wheelers, and even did a stint in four wheeler racing – in his younger days.   Goldwing ownership has spanned a 1984 GL1200, 1989 GL1500, 2003 GL1800 and currently a 2014 GL1800.

Trish has been employed by the State of Missouri in Jefferson City for 15 years.  She has been riding since 2009 and has owned 2 street bikes – a Honda Rebel 250 and a Kawasaki Vulcan 500 and still has a Yamaha 125 dirt bike.

We both love seeing the country from the seat of our motorcycle.  Before joining GWRRA we traveled very little and rarely met new people outside of our small town.  Since 2011, we have managed to have our bike in 25 states and have made countless new friends.  Our bucket list includes all 48 contiguous states and to make new friends in each new state we visit.

Beginning as our chapters Rider Educators and moving into Chapter Asst Directors and currently Chapter Directors, we feel we have made the progression at a pace that has allowed us to be the best that we can be, and excite our fellow members.  B2 is a small chapter with a big heart; we are honored to be part of this family that has allowed us to represent them.

As well, we are honored to have been chosen as the 2017 District Couple of the Year and are grateful for the experience and the opportunity to now represent the Missouri District.  There is still a lot to learn, but are confident that we are up to the challenge.  We feel the support and encouragement from everyone that we come into contact with and want to pass this along to others.  We are proud to be members of the GWRRA family.

Be Wise, Be Safe, and Have Fun!
